Ancillary Order Entry

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Ancillary departments may be located in the Departments drop-down menu. When a specific department is selected, a list of all available items within that department will display. Ancillary departments are typically defined as Cardiopulmonary, Laboratory, Rehab Services (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy), Radiology (Imaging), and Dietary.

To view the items within a specific department, select the issuing department from the Departments drop-down list.

Select Order Entry > Order Type > List Type > Departments > Ancillary Department

Once the department is selected, the available items will appear in the Search Orders portion of the screen. The provider may then scroll to find the desired test/item or use the free-text search box. Results will begin to auto-populate as information is being typed into the Search box. Search Orders results will decrease as more information is typed in the Search box. The date/time, frequency, and indication of STAT will all display in the Search Orders box and in the Pending Orders box (once placed in pending).

To move an item to the Pending Orders box, select the item and select the Add to Pending option from the action bar. Double-clicking the item will also move it to the Pending Orders box.

Select Order Entry > select Ancillary Order > Frequency

Ancillary Order Edit

Ancillary orders with a set frequency should generate the set number of orders based upon the frequency. If multiple frequency times are specifically set, the orders will be created for those set times (Routine will default to the current time). Orders that are prior to the set frequency times will populate as Canceled.

Once a frequency order has been placed, the Order Detail may be reviewed from Order Chronology. Each scheduled occurrence will display at the bottom of the Order Detail. Any orders scheduled for a previous set frequency time will be canceled (based upon the time ordered).

Example: If Q8H is scheduled for 0600, 1400, and 2200 and the order is placed at 1000, the 0600 order will populate as Canceled.
