Working with Cards

Users can take various actions with cards to best suit their workflow.

Move Cards: To move a card to another location on the board, select on the top portion of the card (on or to the right of the card title) and drag it to the desired location.

Resize Cards: To resize a card, select in the lower-right corner of the card and drag inward, outward, up, or down.

NOTE: The board must be unlocked to move or resize cards. If it is currently locked, the Unlock Cards icon unlock_icon-closedlock appears in the upper-right corner of the screen. Select this icon to unlock the cards. (The icon will change to the Lock Cards icon lock_icon-openlock.)

View Cards Full-Screen: To maximize a card to full-screen size, select the diagonal double arrows maximize_card in the upper-right corner of the card. Select the arrows again to restore the card back to its previous size.

Organize Cards: To automatically remove white space between cards after adding, moving, and resizing cards, select the Organize Cards icon organize_cards in the upper-right corner of the screen.

View/Change Configuration Settings: On cards that display a cog icon cog_configuration, select this icon to view or change configuration settings for the card. These settings might include a date range or options to filter the card to include/exclude certain types of data. When configuration settings are selected, a number displays next to the cog to indicate the number of settings applied.

Rename Cards: To change the card title, hover over the current title to display an Edit icon edit_board_title. Select the Edit icon, modify the title as desired, and press <Enter> to save the change.

Remove Cards: To remove a card from the board, select the Menu icon menu_icon on the card and select Delete Card. To add a card back once it has been deleted, you must edit the board. (See Board Management.)

Take Actions: Some cards display an Actions button actions_button that can be used to navigate quickly to other areas of the system. Select the button to view the available actions; then select the action you want to take. For example, from the Current Medications List card, the Actions menu provides shortcuts to Order Entry, Order Chronology, and the MAR.

Refreshing Card Data

Each time a board is opened, the cards on the board display the most recent data available. To update the data while viewing a board, select the Refresh icon refresh_cards_icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Hovering over the Refresh icon will display the date and time the cards were last updated.

When a patient does not have any clinical data to display within a card, the message "No data to display" will display on the card.

Cloning a Card

Cards can be cloned to display multiple instances of the card within a board. This feature is available on most cards, excluding cards that provide add and edit capabilities. The following cards cannot be duplicated: Allergy and Intolerance, Chief Complaint, Problem Management, Procedures, and Radiology.

To Clone a Card: Within the card, select the Menu icon menu_icon and select Clone Card. The cloned copy of the card will display with the original card name followed by "CLONE." Select the Edit icon on the cloned copy to rename it as desired. There is no limit to the number of times a card may be cloned. Cloned cards display the exact same data as the card they were cloned from. You can use the cloned copies to filter or configure the information in different ways, so multiple views are visible at once.

To Delete a Cloned Card: To delete a cloned card, select the Menu icon menu_icon within the card and then select Delete Card.

Cloned Cards within Board Management: A cloned card cannot be added or deleted from the Boards menu. If a single instance of a card exists on the board, the user will have the ability to select the check box to include or exclude the card from the Boards menu. If more than one instance of a card exists, the check box within the Boards menu will become disabled and the user will need to use the Card menu to remove the card(s). Once a card has been cloned, a numeric indicator will display next to the card title within the Boards menu. This will let the user know the number of versions that exist for that card within the selected board.

Understanding Card Types

Two types of cards are available in Patient Data Console: Dataset cards and Specialty cards.

Dataset cards are view-only cards. They can be filtered to display certain data, but cannot be used to add or edit data.

Specialty cards are interactive, allowing users to view, add, and edit data.
