A Behavior Control is available for Emergency Access to Private Health Information (EPHI), aka "Breaking the Glass." In the event that a provider does not have the All Physicians switch selected on Page 2 of the Physician Security table, the provider will receive one of the following messages when attempting to access a patient chart.
1.When a provider does not have All Physicians selected on Page 2 of Physician Security, but has the Behavior Control Allow Access to EPHI set to Allow, they will receive the following prompt:
Charts
The possible reasons for not having access to the chart are listed in the message:
▪You are not a physician of record.
▪You are not a member of the same Physician Practice as a physician of record.
▪You are not listed as a consulting physician on this patient encounter or patient profile.
▪You are not a member of this Patient's Care Team.
The back arrow may be selected to return to the Charts search option. The Accept option may be selected to attest that the needed access to the patient's chart is for a Medical Emergency and that the provider will take responsibility for the privacy of the information they may view on the chart, as well as responsibility for any actions they take regarding the information on the chart.
Selecting Accept will allow the provider access to the chart. Select Deny to return to the previous screen without accessing the patient chart. If a patient chart has been accessed by "Breaking the Glass," an event will be logged on both the individual Patient Audit Log report and the facility Unauthorized Access Report.
