Editing Pharmacy Orders

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Pharmacy Order Edit options will depend on the type of order that was placed. Non-IV, IV, Diabetic Record, and PCA Medications will all have different Order Edit screens. Pharmacy Items may have predefined information that will automatically populate the Order Edit screen. The predefined information that displays will depend on the List Type that was used to order the item.

If the order is being placed from an Order Set or Protocol, the predefined values will pull into the fields depending on how the item was saved in the order set/protocol setup.

If the order is being placed from the Departments listing, the predefined values in the Item Master will populate.

If the order is being placed from Order Lists, the department Order List will pull into the fields depending on how the item was saved in the Order List setup.

If the order is being placed from Physicians, the Order List predefined values that were saved by the physician that created the order list will populate.

Once a Pharmacy item is selected and moved to the pending queue, the user must make a Drug Allergy Entry. Either a drug allergy from the Micromedex lookup or NKDA must be charted. This occurs if the "Require Drug Allergy Entry" switch is checked in POC Control Maintenance.

The patient's height and weight must also be documented if the required switch is checked.

All types of pharmacy orders may be back-dated to the pharmacy order start time, as far back as the patient's admission date/time, if needed.
